MADDIE German Shepherd Dog Adult - Adoption, Rescue for sale in Farmington, Minnesota

$350

Maddie is a very sweet (but shy at first) almost 6 year old (Bday 4-12-12) German Shepherd mix. She weighs 45 pounds. She came to us from a shelter where she was just hours away from being euthanized at a shelter for being scared. She is slow to trust at first, but once she trusts you she loves to be by you (literally as close as she can be)! Maddie LOVES toys, especially ones that squeak! As far as other dogs, Maddie doesnt know how to interact with them always, so sweet/gentle & maybe small or no other dogs are best for her. She also enjoys respectful kids that can give her the space she needs to get used to them first. She lives with 6 & 8 year old dog savvy kids now and does great with them. She is kenneled during the workday and overnights. She is housebroken but can have some nervous pee accidents when first meeting new people. Some loud noises scare her & she retreats to her kennel (her safe zone). She is very submissive, sometimes skiddish. She rides nice in the car

by you of course! We found out Maddie had heartworm when she was getting her vet work done.

She has completed all her treatments and has been cleared by a vet. Maddie's adoptive family must keep up on her monthly heartworm preventative all year long as well as her other vaccines & monthly flea/tick prevention to keep from getting infected again. Maddie was on low/restricted activity during her months of treatment and so her energy level can be a bit higher while she gets used to her new found freedom, she can be a little clumsy and out of shape too as shes learning how to be a dog! She is looking for a patient home that will work with her to become her best self, could you be that person/family?

Adoption Fee: $350

This dog will be at the Apple Valley Petco on Saturday from 11-3 looking for a home.

Our fosters do the best they can to provide all information about the animal's background and temperament while in foster care in their home.

An adopters routine and home environment is likely going to be different than that in their foster home.

Sometimes there is more that comes out about a dog's personality once they have been able to settle in a home and truly become comfortable.

There are great articles out there written about the different stages a pet goes through after adoption, discussing transitions that happen at 3 days, 3 weeks, and 3 months.

We highly recommend reading about this - it will help you understand the transition your new pet goes through.

Last Hope, Inc. is an all volunteer, foster based, no kill rescue! You can see almost all of our dogs on Saturdays from 11-3 at the Apple Valley Petco and at the Lakeville PetSmart located by Hy-Vee.

Policies: You do not have to have a fence to adopt a dog from us, but some dogs will require a fence or acres to play, or an active family who will make sure the dog gets the exercise it needs to be happy.

Some dogs do not have the temperament that will do well with young children.

The Adoption Fee is not enough to cover the vet bills. Sales tax of almost 7.25% is also included in the adoption fee that you see. Please consider donating to Last Hope to help us save these animals!

CAN YOU FOSTER? By taking a dog or puppies into your home temporarily and then coming to our adoption days to help find them homes, we can save more! If interested, please email krkallemeyn@hotmail.com and give us your contact information and what you would like to foster and someone will get back to you! Check our webpage and click the picture of the border collie on the side to learn more about fostering too!
